It has been two years since the Oviedo Redondo Association paid tribute to Fina Clemente, since then I have been wanting to immortalize her in an oil portrait for some time. Fina Clemente is around 90 years old and is still running her grocery store on Mon Street in Oviedo.
The store where Fina has worked since she was fourteen is one of the oldest businesses in the city. His grandfather, Sabiniano Clemente, founded it in 1904 and his granddaughters began helping him in 1947, after the death of their parents. "My grandfather paid two pesetas in rent for the ground floor and the board where he lived."
Widowed at a very young age, she worked hard to raise her three daughters.
The memory I have of her is from the time when I lived in the Old Town and worked in bars in the area. I remember those mortadella or chorizo sandwiches that always make you delicious, the spicy olives at Mon 22 with my friend Joselón Peña Villamañe. She probably doesn't remember me.
I think that women like this are what make the city, they are the amalgam that unites us all, that's why I felt I had to paint her so that she always stays among us. Fina Clemente already belongs to the club of my Inmortales de Oviedo. In a few days, when the oil painting matures, I want to stop by your store so it can be seen in my painting. I hope you like it. I felt many good things while I painted it.
