It's been about 8 years since I painted this piece. We were at the “peak” of the crisis that devastated half the world. “Essay on mockery” was a project in which, among other things, the mockery of the northern European countries towards the rest of their southern partners was clearly shown. They called us “affectionately” PIGS (Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain). Having chosen that order of the acronym's initials and its reference to the word “pigs” says a lot about the vision they had of their Mediterranean partners.

The image of a giant, plump Angela Merkel sticking her tongue out at us was a perfect illustration for a moment in which they were pressuring our government by land, sea and air to cut public spending (yes, in healthcare too) and put debt before the state. of well-being of the inhabitants of this country.

Of those dusts, these muds. Today we find ourselves with diminished healthcare that is sustained thanks to the courage and sacrifice of those who risk it in the trenches of this healthcare that we can no longer boast of as before.

In these days when the issuance of the famous “coronabonos” Angela Merkel and her friends from the north once again say “Nein” to us but they strongly ask us not to close the borders because they need fruit and artichokes. It is what it is. The mockery continues.
